Rodeo and Fundraiser Time

Lots going on this week. The Big Tent is open and that along with all the other swap meet venues can keep you pretty busy. If you get hungry, we have spaghetti feed and pancake breakfast fundraisers that would appreciate your donations. There is also a potluck for Canadians at the QIA, eh.

Aside from the RV show in Quartzsite, the other big draws are up in Lake Havasu City with the rodeo in town and Camaros on the bridge. There is always plenty of great entertainment at the rodeo as well as good food.

Was the 60s or 70s YOUR time or are you a fan of the Cheech and Chong movies? Cheech and Chong will be appearing at the Bluewater Resort in Parker for what I am sure will be a funny show.  If gospel music is more your thing, the Parks Family who have performed in Branson, MO will be in Quartzsite this week with several performances scheduled.

Government Shutdown Affecting Quartzsite

Quartzsite La Posa LTVA

The BLM Yuma Field Office has been notified about the government shutdown and has now closed the water and septic dump station in La Posa South. Campers will be allowed to stay on the LTVAs, but no further permits will be issued at this time. Registration shacks are closed and volunteers are not officially on duty. Signs have been posted. Dump and water  services are available in Quartzsite. Pease see our directory at http://rvquartzsite.com/directory/categories .  We know this is a terrible time for this to happen with the annual RV show and Big Tent just kicking off but please be respectful of any BLM staff you see as they are not responsible for this. Call your Congresspersons if you wish and try to relax and continue to enjoy the pleasures of Quartzsite camping. Please please also respect the desert environment and don’t dump on it.

Countdown to Big Tent

Quartzsite Big Tent

The busiest week of the season is here at last! The Big Tent is all setup and vendors are moving in. Customers will have to wait until Saturday to get in as the excitement builds and the strays roll in to camp in the surrounding desert. Remember to leave plenty of space between neighbors, run your generators only as much as is absolutely necessary during decent hours, keep control of your pets, and play nice. Everyone is there to have fun and enjoy the warmer temps so check the attitudes and mind your manners. Check the local radio station for cool tunes from OUR time.

Tyson Wells Sell-A-Rama opens this week for more shopping choices. We have both the Havasu Balloon Festival and the Blythe Bluegrass Festival for entertainment. I love them both! Since they happen at the same time, you will need to do some planning to hit both on the best days. You may also want to plan to attend the QIA PowWow. You HAM operators will also want to make time for your Quartzfest. Decisions! Decisions! We also have the wonderful annual shows put on by Paul Winer for afternoon or evening entertainment.

Oh my. So busy this week. Take it easy and don’t forget to kick back with friends this week.

Welcome to January 2018

Happy New Year! More shows/venues are opening this week and Quartzsite is filling up with more folks. It’s getting pretty busy there already as we gear up for the Big Tent this month. It’s getting exciting! We’ll top the week off with the annual Hi Jolly Daze Parade. Temps are in the lovely 70’s during the day while nights are dropping down to the 40’s. It’s good campfire weather to roast some marshmallows and talk about your latest great finds. You may prefer to hunker down inside with friends and family for some rousing games of dominoes or cards into the wee hours. Enjoy!

Spaghetti, Sand, Water, and RVs

Hmm. Interesting combination this week! The annual fundraiser for Celia’s Rainbow Garden is this week. If you have never been to that park, you need to go! It is a lovely memorial park created in the name of a little girl who died too young. It is now home to numerous beautiful, artistic memorials. Please help support it and enjoy the spaghetti dinner.

Veteran’s Day This Week

Veteran’s Day is coming again. Be sure to thank them for their service and remember those who did not come home.  Along with ceremonies, we have a cookout at Gunny’s where you can also see a military museum and you can help celebrate the birth of the Marine Corps, a grand service. I am ex-Air Force myself and my son served in the Army but all the services do a great job of taking raw kids and turning them into fine men and women.

More Venues Opening This Week – Run

Quartzsite is starting to get busy with lots more folks coming in for the winter. More swap meet venues are opening up this week to accommodate them. Look for the Quartzsite Market Place Street Fair, Rice Ranch and Greasewood to open. The Rotary are sponsoring their annual Run, Walk, Rock n Roll. Walking sounds good to me but now and then I rock n roll too!

Don’t forget to hit up Silly Al’s for some great pizza before it gets too crowded in Quartzsite. They get so busy that the line to get in stretches way out the door! Trust me, their pizza is worth it.
