Happy Thanksgiving, Quartzsite!

The sun is shining, temps are warm during the day, and more campers are arriving daily. This week is Thanksgiving, a time to enjoy great food with family and friends and be thankful for what we have including the great opportunity to winter in or near Quartzsite. For what we are about to receive, let us be truly thankful.

This week, ice skating opens for the season in Lake Havasu City. The kids (2-90) and grandkids will love that! Closer to home are the Annual Thanksgiving Regatta Boat Races in Parker for some vroom vroom fun. In Quartzsite, Santa’s Workshop will be showing off his elves arts and crafts. Time To Chill Out

Temps this week are in the 60s during the day and dipping down to the 40s at night with some wind so be ready to add those layers all day and snuggle up with your honey at night. Please be very careful with fire. We are in fire weather. Our sincerest best wishes go out to our California campers who are dealing with uncontrolled fires, smoke, and huge losses at this time.

This week is rather slow until the weekend when most of the action will be up in Lake Havasu State Park at the Annual Sand, Water, and RV Expo. They have something for every sports/camping/hunting enthusiast. The cost is only $5 for admission and a portion of the proceeds will go to support the rehabilitation of over 100,000 U.S. military veterans who have suffered debilitating spinal cord injuries and amputation.

In Quartzsite, there will be a foodbank fundraiser so stop on in for some rib sticking chili and cornbread. Mmm mmm! They will also have some great raffle items including gift certificates to Silly Al’s, Walmart and Pilot gas.

Quartzsite is Calling

quartzsite001Howdy and welcome to another Quartzsite winter season! Yep, it’s that time again. The great Quartzsite snowbird migration has started. It’s still plenty hot at 97 degrees today with wind, rain, and a flood watch until 5:00 AM MST on October 03, 2018 but that won’t stop the season from coming.

Our website calendar of events is now updated so you can start planning  your fun. Lots of swap meet venues start opening in just a few days. If you are into jet skiing, you may want to stop in Lake Havasu first to watch the Blowsion World Finals and catch the Haunted Pineapple Race. In Parker, the CRIT Native American Days Fair and Expo will be available for your strolling pleasure on Friday and Saturday.

If you don’t already have a reservation at an area campground and don’t plan to boondock on BLM land, you best be getting that done soon. Campsites book up fast this time of year, especially for January. It’s also a good time to look at items that need repaired or upgrading in and on your RV and start making a list. At Quartzsite, you can find most ANYTHING and get lots of repair work done or shop for a new or new to you RV.

From me and my family to you, have a wonderful Quartzsite season!

Pyros and Rockabillies and Eagles Oh My!

Holy cow! It’s time already for the annual Winter Blast and Pyrotechnic Show up in Lake Havasu City again. This awesome spectacle is a must-see at least once in your lifetime event. Camping is already fully booked but you can drive up for the day and parking is only $5. Pets and car alarms are discouraged due to the constant loud noises during the show which set them both off.

For those of you with fond memories of the 1950s, the Rockabilly Reunion is for you with the largest 1950’s-themed car show and music festival. Retro is IN and can be found at Lake Havasu City this weekend.

Eagles fans should consider going to the Hotel California concert at the Bluewater Resort in Parker, AZ. While the Eagles band dissolved long ago, their music lives on and still thrills audiences of all ages. Check in to their music and you will never check out.

Up in Lake Havasu City, they will be celebrating their Winterfest again. If you are into remote controlled planes, The Desert Flyers will be taking off at their airfield to show off their prowess and share the fun.

While not particularly entertaining, if you are still in the area you have a chance to get several health screening tests done at one time at the QIA on Wednesday.

Geocaching, Food, and Fun

This week kicks off the Escapee Geocachers rally. All geocachers are welcome to join them for fun using millions of dollars of government hardware to find little containers in the desert to sign the logs and score. LOL It may seem silly to some but geocaching has led me to countless wonderful sites I would never have found on my own in my travels and helped me to learn an area fast. Get a group together for even more fun socializing while hunting. If you have the nerve, go night caching with a group and strong flashlights to find GC7HJBH off Cholla Road. I’m seeing many of you finding my personal favorite, The Dump, in Quartzsite.

The food bank could use your help and is offering up dancing, refreshments, and prizes in return for your cash or boxed or canned food donation.

The Dump Station Revue sounds like fun over at JR’s RV Park.

For some fine homemade items, stop in at the arts and crafts fair at Tyson Wells and the Quilt Show at the Senior Center.

Food Donations Needed

Not everyone who lives or camps in Quartzsite is well off. The Quartzsite Food Bank helps many people keep food on the table and they could use your donations of food or money to continue helping them. I remember a time as a young under-employed family when we lived on hot dogs and mac n’ cheese. It was not a fun time.

The food bank has food donation boxes around town at Dollar General, RoadRunner Market, Family Dollar, Silly Al’s Restaurant, Horizon Community Bank, Quartzsite General Store and the Town Hall/Library. Items they need are canned, boxed or packaged food including meat, vegetables, dinners, pasta, peanut butter, snack bars, water and other beverages including juice.

You can also help by attending their Live, Love, Laugh, Line Dance Fundraiser on January 29, 2018 at the QIA from 11am – 2pm $5 charge. No partner needed. Learn new dances. There will be refreshments and prizes.

For more information or to make a cash donation, go to FQFoodBank.com .
