You Feel That?

My feet are starting to itch again. It happens every September as we start closing in on winter and another great season in Quartzsite. It starts with just a mild hinky feeling in them like they should be somewhere else and then it intensifies in October until November comes and they are constantly trying to walk out the door to get to Quartzsite.  Oh my! Do you feel that too?

The heat is still high in the desert but it should be cooling down soon enough. It’s time to start making those reservations if you prefer a regular campground experience and reserve an RV if you prefer to fly in. Is your RV ready for the long journey down south? Check those tires and other systems. Be sure your insurance and emergency road service are up to date. It’s a good time to call your RVing family and friends to start planning a meetup. Maybe you can convince a newbie to go with you.

We’ll start publishing updates soon as the activities are about to begin. Stay tuned and have a wonderful Quartzsite winter!

2016-2017 Quartzsite Events Schedule Posted

It may be the middle of summer but the fun in Quartzsite will start gearing up soon enough and it’s time to start planning for it. The new schedule has been posted with all the new dates we could find. The Main Event has not released their upcoming dates yet but all the others have so come see what fun you will be having this winter and start your planning engines. Here’s an idea for those of you who also cruise. To make the most of my time in the area, I have a cruise booked out of Long Beach, CA just before the Quartzsite RV show. Yahoo! Love combining my two favorite trips. Another idea is to go early and stay in another nearby town like Palm Springs, Slab City near Niland, CA, Yuma, or Lake Havasu City for a couple weeks to explore the local culture and history sites. As much as I love Quartzsite, there is much more to see in the area.

Enjoy the new schedule. See you there!

Great Deals Today!

While this post is not exactly related to Quartzsite, I know many of my readers come to Quartzsite and the annual RV swap meet because they love a good deal. Today is Prime Day on Amazon.com. That means there are wonderful deals galore today only like having Black Friday in July. If you are a Prime Member (and why wouldn’t you be!), you can shop till you drop today with new deals constantly revolving in every few minutes today. Find something you like and grab it but be sure to note the time left on it and check out before it is up. Not a Prime Member? Get a free trial for 30 days to check out the savings. Canceling online is easy if you change your mind.

Many RV parks will accept UPS packages or you can have items sent to your mail service or a friend. I have never tried shipping from Amazon to General Delivery myself so if anyone knows if that works, please let me know.

I just bought an Instant Pot 7-in-1 rice steamer, browner, yogurt maker, pressure cooker, etc for more than $40 off! That will cut my cooking time way down and generate less heat in my already hot RV this summer. Who even uses the RV oven anymore?

I also see great deals on Amazon Kindles and Kindle Fires. I LOVE my Kindle Fire for reading books, playing games, reading email, browsing websites, and even managing my own websites on the go. When my hands are busy, it reads the newspaper or books to me with built in text-to-speech. Is that cool or what?!

If you are an avid reader or an avid researcher like me, Kindle Unlimited yearly subscriptions are also on sale today. Instead of paying $9.99 a month for it, get it today for only around $80 for a whole year! That’s 33% off. AWESOME! Check out 10 ebooks at a time to read free and there are tons of books in this program on any subject you can imagine as well as lots of fiction to enjoy in a hammock by the lake.

Don’t miss this!

Note: I am an affiliate of Amazon and any links included in this post are affiliate links which do not cost you a thing extra but do provide me with a small commission if you enter through them. This post, however, is to offer valuable savings tips to folks who love saving money as much as I do.

Start Planning For Next Year

The heat is about to set in so it is time to start thinking about moving on. It’s supposed to get pretty windy on Sunday though.

You may also want to start planning for next year. I know I am! Carnival Cruise Lines has a nice little 4 day cruise out of Los Angeles to Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico from January 15th to the 19th, 2017 which I plan to be on just before the RV Show in Quartzsite. Nothing like catching two birds with one stone. 😀 Three birds actually since I own stock in Carnival. If any of you other Quartzsiters will be cruising too, we should meet up. Pretty sure they won’t let us have a campfire on the Lido deck but I think they do allow RV chatting on cruises.

Signing off until next season. TTFN

Quartzsite Winding Down But Still Fun

There’s still plenty of folks in the area though traditionally most will be gone by the end of next month. We still have some interesting things to do this week. Urbanart, etc Painting Party invites you to join them for their Quartzsite Student and Teacher Show, Monday, February 15 From 1:30-3 pm At the Quartzsite Senior Center. There will be a preview of Marcy’s Spring Show and a display of student works from this season.
A percentage of sales will go to the Quartzsite Senior Center and the QIA.

Also in Quartzsite, we have the 19th Quartzsite Masters for you golf aficionados out there. They take place out on the Quartzsite Tough Golf Course out on the desert. The $25 entry fee includes a specially-designed T-shirt, a meal, beverages of your choice, and a chance to win the coveted green jacket as in the real Masters. Don’t expect the usual rules of golf at this course though. Per Rick Stedman of RVGolferMagazine.com , “According to organizer Dennis Dole, there are no tee times, green fees, clubhouses, cocktail waitresses or cart paths. “The only rules are,” according to Dole, “you can tee up the ball on every shot, and you must use only one club while golfing these 18 holes from hell.” For those who aren’t very good at putting, don’t worry. There is no putting. Simply hit the ball within the designated circle surrounding each pin. The entire course is around 2,100 yards long. Most holes are par 2 and par 3 with the longest hole a 176-yard, par 4.

Up in Havasu next weekend, you can also enjoy The Annual Havasu Winterfest with about 200 vendors at 400 booths with demonstrations, entertainment, and children’s activities.

Quiet Week of Quartzsite Show Recovery

Nothing new in the way of shows this week and weekend but the Tyson Wells Arts & Crafts Fair and the Out West Art & Gem Show are both still going on through the 7th and of course there are still vendors open for your shopping pleasure.

The Annual Western Winter Blast Pyrotechnic Show is coming up next week starting Monday and a lot of folks move up there for a week to attend it so you may want to start putting things away in your RV and look for good boondocking spots in the area or nearby campgrounds.

Don’t forget to take it a bit easier this week to recover from all the great shows you have been attending this winter. The never ending winter party is great but your body (especially your legs) could use a break. Get some sleep, get your legs up, try some light stretching. If you haven’t been hydrating at the Beer Garden or elsewhere, now is a good time.

Party Not Over Yet

While the RV Show is now over and many have left, winter is still here as are lots of snowbirds still looking for that great deal, unique item, or some fun. This weekend will not disappoint. The Tyson Wells Arts & Crafts Fair starts on Friday while the Out West Arts & Gem Show starts Saturday. Quartzsite is still rockin’! Speaking of rocking, Paul Winer will be appearing in concert (and in clothes) once again for two shows on Saturday at the QIA. He’s a wonderful musician you don’t want to miss. If you need a little more action, cowboy up and head on up the trail to Lake Havasu on Saturday or Sunday for the Grand Canyon Pro Rodeo & Little Dilbert Days. Along with the rodeo, there will be “gold panning, king of the hill, roping arena, back hoe challenge, bounce houses, ole fishing hole, cow jousting, shooting gallery, cup cake walk, peddle tractor races and much more.” Yippee-ki-yay pardners!

Quartzsite Fun

Are we having fun yet in Quartzsite? It looks like some folks are! This is the first time I have seen a ferris wheel at The Main Event. And who knew the mighty Hulk would show up? Wow! Can’t pass up that photo op. Anybody seen any other good photo ops?

The Too Crazy Ladies will take your order for pins and badges while you wait for diesel service next door. What a place!

Rocks, Fireworks, and BBQ

The RV Show is going well. There are some empty vendor spaces around town again this year but folks are still finding plenty of goodies to buy. There are not as many food vendors as usual but the ice cream is still available and popular as is the the tri tip sandwiches and ribs at The Main Event.

My favorite Quartzsite geocache, “The Dump”, is being found daily which is amazing considering where it is located in full muggle view. Don’t forget there are some Munzees there too.

If you have never had the pleasure of finding a camping spot close to the Big Tent, apparently this was the year to attend as some prime spots were open just prior to the show. There are some very happy campers out there getting their first taste of a shorter walk.

This week, the QIA and Main Event appear to be the places to be when you aren’t cruising through the Big Tent. The annual QIA Pow Wow starting Wednesday will be showcasing gems, minerals, and jewelry in numerous booths both inside and outside along with food, craft exhibits in the Hobby Room from the various classes they offer, and field trips. Over at the Main Event this coming weekend you’ll find mouth watering BBQ, fantastic fireworks, a classic car show, and Hit & Miss engines.
