Reports already coming in from Quartzsite concerning thieves stealing generators and other items again this year. Be sure to chain your generators, bikes, coolers, etc. up securely and you may want to stay within view of a couple neighbors rather than camping in a totally desolated area. Every year I have been there I have also seen folks run out of gas in the area with no money and begging for help so you may want to lock up your gas cans too. I don’t mind helping people down on their luck at all but I prefer it be my choice and to keep the empty can at least.
Another something I learned in an RV park elsewhere that was targeted by thieves one night, don’t leave your wallets, purses, or anything else of value near your door. Many try for a quick score by looking for unlocked doors and quick easy pickings.
Don’t let these warnings scare you away. Quartzsite is a blast during the winter and most campers are only there to enjoy it so go and have fun but don’t expect it to be a perfect paradise.
Addendum: Per one of our readers, please also DON’T leave any pets outside unattended for even 5 minutes and walk them on a leash at all times or they will become coyote dinner. Coyotes are very active in the Quartzsite desert area and your “fur baby” looks like a great snack to them. Unattended pets are lost to predators every year in the area.
